Lumpen Radio, WLPN-LP Chicago 105.5FM launched in 2016 and broadcasts 24/7. WLPN-LP is operated by a community of curators working to connect you with the music and ideas you love. Our aim is to spotlight the hidden parts of the city by amplifying its voices and sounds. We promote open media, uniting communities and magnifying the hard work of artists, musicians, activists and cultural workers like you. WLPN is a project of Public Media Institute (PMI).

As the population’s demographics evolve into a Latine majority in the United States, first and second generation Latine are establishing a new cultural identity informed by both their heritage and culture. This vibrant melting pot of ideas and innovation is shaping the global music community, however it continues to develop in the margins of the larger US music market.

How to Make a Scene is a conversation series about artist-run cultural ecosystems of the 1980s and 1990s in Chicago. This series is a collaborative effort between the Public Media Institute and MdW, with support from the Terra Foundation for American Art as part of the city-wide initiative, Art + Design Chicago.
The project aims to connect veteran artist organizers with those working today through a combination of intimate events at Co-Prosperity, broadcasts on Lumpen Radio, and live streams on LumpenTV. The series will offer audiences trailheads for further exploration of Chicago's storied history of alternative gallery spaces, independent publications, and socially engaged collectives.
This episode features: Moderator Salem Collo-Julin with panelists travis, P. Michael, Da Wei Wang, & Rosé Hernandez. Following the panel, ONO performed a special set featuring travis, P. Michael, Da Wei Wang, and Benjamin Karas.

Educators, are you looking for a way to center your student’s experiences in Chicago as a platform for exploring and understanding the historical and contemporary forces that created and perpetuated racial residential segregation?Want a tool for discussing big systemic issues in a way that is personal and inspires action?
After watching social justice artist Tonika Johnson’s 30-minute animated movie about her childhood experience with Chicago’s segregation, students are guided through a series of reflections and activities that culminate in an action plan to help disrupt the cycle of segregation in their own lives.
This conversation was recorded on August 15th at the Buddy store.
